I Am Usual Woman

The quilt is stitched with a pattern called ‘Double Wedding Rings’. The pattern was traditionally used for a trousseau quilt made by bride’s female relatives. The used photographs were found on the matrimonial websites specially created for Russian women to find a Western husband. I selected the images for the quilt from the ones which were shown on these websites as ‘the best samples’ of how women should be photographed for the best matchmaking.
The title for this work derives from the phrase I came across the most at the women’s profiles where they try to describe themselves with often limited English language skills as an ordinary person with an ordinary dream of finding her ‘half’ for life.
The limited edition of cushions were produced in the same technique later on as an additional element to the work.
